Doomed to Repeat: The Newsletter!
I won't lie to you. Things are not looking great right now and there's a lot to be worried about, but as Mariame Kaba says, "hope is a discipline," and the best way to keep hope alive is to keep living and fighting for ourselves and those around us. That's what the newsletter is for. It's a way for me to keep my head as I doomscroll. Hopefully it's a way for you to connect with the past and find strength and understanding from it.
Despite the unprecedented nature of our present predicament, there is still so much to learn from our nation's history. There are the obvious things like the intentional resegregation happening in the federal government, universities, and businesses. There also smaller details about resistance, Civil Rights, and how everyday people fought collectively and individually to retain their humanity even as things might be collapsing around them. Oppression and trouble take on so many forms, but so does solidarity and resistance. We ain't beat yet.
Doomed to Repeat is for us, and the feeling of doom around us, that we might push forward and not repeat prior mistakes. That the fight is not over. We just need to find new ways to fight it I'm shooting for posts to come out once a week, but you know how these things go. We'll talk a little history, and how it intersects with things we see, and maybe find some thoughts and actions to buoy us.
If that sounds like you, welcome! The first regular post should ship sometime soon, so tell your friends. Tell your foes. Signing up is free! I have decided to add a paid tier to the blog. It's mostly going to be the same content because I want as many people as possible along for the ride. This helps defray some of the hosting costs and other expenses for the site, and a nice way to help out. There may be some exclusive content down the way and paid members would be the first to know and have input into it, but whichever you choose, I'm thrilled you're here.
